The Makalu Base Camp Trek is a challenging and off-the-beaten-path trekking route in the eastern region of Nepal. It takes you through the Makalu Barun National Park, one of the least explored and most remote areas in Nepal. The trek offers spectacular views of some of the world’s highest peaks, including Mount Everest, Makalu, and Lhotse. The trek usually starts from Tumlingtar, which is accessible by a short flight from Kathmandu. From Tumlingtar, you will trek through dense forests, rocky trails, and high mountain passes to reach the base camp of Mount Makalu, the fifth highest peak in the world. The trek is usually completed in around 18-21 days, depending on your itinerary and pace. The best time to do this trek is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons, when the weather is clear and the views are stunning.
